Whether you celebrate the Jewish holidays or not, you might want to take advantage of the opportunity to say “Happy Thanksgivukkah” this year. You’ll never get to do it again.
It turns out that given the quirks of the Gregorian and Jewish calendars, and the traditional placement of the holidays on those respective calendars – Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November, Hanukkah kicking off on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev – the twofer we’re getting this year won’t happen for a very, very long time again, if ever.
This holiday mashup has inspired a good deal of cross-cultural creativity. We couldn’t resist getting into the act ourselves with a little upcycling (it’s a habit we have). And while we can’t promise that our menorah or our wines are kosher, we have tried the Chenin Blanc with both turkey and latkes, and, yep, it works!
